Chapter 4

It had been an unusally cold year in White Horse Vale, but the air outside was decidedly warm compared to the chill that hung over the dining room of the royal palace one morning in late September. Alfred, the youngest son of the king and queen, had always been used to getting his own way - he saw it as the one and only perk of being born to older parents. He knew that unless some tragedy befell his brother and heir to the throne, Louis, he’d never be king, so he was determined to make his own way in life. Unfortunately his parents didn’t always agree with the choices that he’d made, but they decided that it was better for him to learn from his mistakes as long as they were not costly to the family’s good name. However they had not prepared for Alfred’s latest bombshell.

Alfred’s cheerful expression that morning would be short lived however, as his latest plan was immediately quashed by a single outraged glare from his father - under no circumstances would a son of White Horse Vale’s king ever become a musician.

With Alfred sulking in his bedroom and the rest of the family in stunned silence, Charles and Sophia spent much of the day attempting to find a solution to their son’s lack of serious direction in life.

"We only have ourselves to blame," mused Sophia "If we hadn’t spent so much time fussing over him and spoiling him he would never have got such a ridiculous idea into his head."

"Perhaps you’re right," Charles answered sadly "but it’s too late to start being overly strict with the lad."

Part of Charles sympathised with Alfred, as he’d accepted his daughter Charlotte’s love for George Chandler without question. If he could give his blessing to his daughter’s marriage to the son of the royal physician, was the fact that his youngest son wished to pursue a career in music really such a bad thing?

  1. Ahhh, the passage of time. I wonder if Uni will really turn out as expected for this lot. I’m also glad that Alfred was able to pursue his dream! I’ll be quite amused to see what he comes up with.

  2. It’s quite scary seeing the founders getting old - some of them look completely different from the way they were as adults, whereas the others have hardly changed. I’ll be sorry to lose a few of them, especially the king (Charles) :( But they’ve all got to go sometime, so I’ll let them enjoy themselves and hope they stick around long enough to see their grandchildren get married. I can’t remember what the lifetime wants for the college bound lot are, but Alfred wants to be a Rock God so I thought “Why not”! That’s quite tame for a romance sim, at least in my game :D

  4. Thanks Mandie :) I got a bit carried away once I started to download things, so it’s great to be able to find a use for everything. Secretly I enjoy decorating the houses almost as much as playing the game!
