Midnight’s Kiss
Over time, Joseph became bolder when Elizabeth was attacked by her nightmares. He found that he could talk to her, but still couldn’t discover the source of her problems. Then, just before Christmas, his question was answered. Elizabeth’s parents were visiting, and the conversation turned toward wedding anniversaries. Elizabeth’s eyes filled with tears, and Joseph learned that Elizabeth had once been married. At first he was jealous, and almost caused the teapot to crash to the floor. However, as he listened to the conversation he cursed himself for his anger. That Christmas Eve should have been Elizabeth’s second wedding anniversary, but instead it was the anniversary of her husband’s death. Her husband had been killed by a driver who was three times over the drink-drive limit, and instead of enjoying a celebratory dinner with both sets of parents Elizabeth was identifying her husband’s body.
After her parents had gone home, Elizabeth went to bed and her nightmare was more intense. She woke up three times, but every time she drifted back to sleep her nightmare continued. Joseph tried to comfort her, but still she twisted and turned. Just before midnight she woke up screaming, causing Joseph to panic even more. All he could do was watch over her as sleep returned. Once more he stroked her hair and hummed the tune, and half an hour later she was sleeping soundly. As he watched her, the hint of a smile appeared on Elizabeth’s face. He kissed her forehead tenderly, and was about to move over to the chair when she opened her eyes and looked straight at him.
“Thank you Joseph,” she whispered.

Awesome Story!
Tanya: Thank you
